Overtown Parish Church morning service in the church on Sunday will take place at 11am. There will be a creche for younger children. The OK Club and B Club 7 resume in the church hall at 10.50am following the holidays and finish at noon. Children are welcome to come along and enjoy a mixture of stories, games, singing. crafts, painting and drawing and old and new members will be made welcome. The Friendship Group are proud to present “Studio 32”, a concert full of music, song and laughter, which will take place in the church on Monday, September 12, starting at 7.15pm. Tickets cost £8 and include tea, coffee and home baking. The proceeds from the evening will be used to purchase pew cushions for the church, which will hopefully be the final batch to complete the renewal. Come along and support this worthy cause. Tickets can be obtained from any member of the friendship group or by contacting Nancy Pollock on 01698 340444. Line dancing class continues on Wednesday afternoon of this week with beginners and refreshers class starting at 12.30pm, followed by the main class from 1.15pm until 2.45pm. All ages and abilities will be made welcome. Grand opening Overtown Brighter Village Associatio­n are holding a grand opening of the new children’s play area in Overtown Park this Saturday, August 27. The cutting the ribbon ceremony will be performed by last year’s Snow Queen, Briony Toner and her champion, Mark Kerr at 12.30pm with the festivitie­s starting at noon through to 4pm. The event will feature a bouncy castle, teddy bear’s picnic, face painting, games, with characters in between the games and will close the day with water balloon fun. It is sure to be a day not to be missed and everyone is welcome to come along and enjoy the festivitie­s.

Newarthill/Carfin

Newarthill and Carfin Parish Church education and mission committee will meet at the church tonight (Wednesday, August 24) at 7.30pm, and a retiring offering for the Mission and Ministries Fund will be taken following the communion service on September 4. Finance committee meeting will take place in the Counting House on Wednesday, August 31, at 7.30pm. Sponsored walk The Scottish Bible Society’s Motherwell branch is holding its annual sponsored walk on Sunday, August 28, in Strathclyd­e Park between 2pm and 4pm. Posters and sponsorshi­p forms for this walk are available to pick up from the Session Clerk. Mission boxes will be collected, dedicated and counted at the church on Sunday, September 18. Everyone is asked to bring their mission boxes on that day or give them in advance to their elder. Volunteer counters are required after this service.

Camera Club Carluke Camera Club opens its new session with an enrolment and cheese and wine evening in St Andrew’s church hall on Friday, August 26, at 7.30pm and old and prospectiv­e members are warmly welcome to attend. Anyone who is interested in photograph­y is welcome to come along and see what’s on offer at one of the leading photograph­ic clubs in Scotland.
