Vigo Thieves are set to release a debut album

- Gregg Kelly

Wishaw’s Vigo Thieves recently announced that their Pledge Music campaign to help fund the release of their debut album ‘Heartbeats’ had been a success.

The Wishaw natives have been feverishly working away in the studio, putting the final touches to their much anticipated first album, and on August 7 revealed on their Pledge Music page that the album was ready. The five piece, consisting of Stevie Jukes on vocals, Gordon Phipps on bass, Barry Cowan on guitar, Chris Gorman on vocals, piano and synth, and Alan Jukes on drums have been causing ripples in the Scottish music scene since they formed in 2010.

The first unsigned band to sell out two consecutive nights at King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut, ‘The Vigo’s’ have quietly proving the hype that surrounds them is more than justified.

“Believe”, their most recent single, was chosen as Scotland’s Euro 2016 anthem, and it’s lucky for fans of the band that they seem to taste a little more success than Gordon Strachan’s unfortunate Scotland team.

With a sound similar to Las Vegas superstars The Killers mashed with an 80’s synth pop vibe, there’s nothing quite like the Vigo Thieves in the charts at the moment, and with their new album primed for release. It’s about time the whole world fell under the Vigo spell.

Forming at around about the same time as The Lafontaines, another Wishaw band the Lafontaines buoyed by publicity, released their critically acclaimed debut album ‘Class.,

The Vigo Thieves, however, have bided their time before deciding to release ‘Heartbeats’.

Vigo Thieves fans were offered a variety of incentives to pledge on site, varying from a digital copy of the debut album, to a signed bass guitar. One of the more inventive pledges even guaranteed an opportunity to play the band at five-a-side football!

With the highly -anticipated ‘Heartbeats’ due for release in Autumn and the band recently announcing a series of intimate gigs for lucky pledgers, you can be almost certain that Wishaw’s very own rock and roll stars will be going “Vigo daft”, very soon, in a venue near you.

Heartbeats is due to be released on September 26.

Meantime, check Vigo Thieves on Facebook for news on their up-andcoming gigs.
