Far from Finnished Crozier targets next title after junior victory

- Ross Thomson

A Motherwell strongman has been crowned Scotland’s junior champion - and is now targeting world title glory in Finland three weeks from now.

Callum Crozier, who trains at Hostile Strength and Conditioning Gym in the town, has had an outstanding few months with placings at several tournaments in both powerlifting and strongman events.

The 20- year- old won the powerlifting Western District Championships which qualified him to go to the Scottish Classic Championships in June.

Callum then went on to win the Scottish championship in the under 105 kilo category.

He finished second at the British Natural Strongest Man Federation (BNSF), he was named Scotland’s strongest man in May which qualified him to go to the BNSF Britain’s Strongest Man .

An impressive fourth place meant that Callum qualified for the WHEA World’s Strongest Man event in Finland in September.

However, Callum’s biggest achievement so far this year has been lifting the title of Scotland’s Strongest Junior as the lightest competitor to ever take the title.

Speaking to the Wishaw Press this week, Callum has been delighted with his success in both sports this year.

He said: “Winning Scotland’s strongest junior was huge for me as I was up against guys who weighed a lot more than me.

“Some of the heaviest guys in that competition were around 160 kilos and I am 99 kilos. Because of the nature of strongman events, you have to rely on not only strength but speed which is my main attribute.

“The bigger guys tend to be more static which gives me a real edge on them.”

As well as the event in Finland, S . Callum is also preparing for the Scottish Deadlift Championships later this year.

Combining a full-time job as a train operator with countless hours in the gym means 5am starts for Callum on a daily basis but that doesn’t stop him from carrying on with his training. He said: “My family and my girlfriend are very supportive as are the guys in the gym.

“I’ve been going to the gym since I was 15 but it’s only been in the last two years I have really committed myself to the competitions.

“It has been amazing so far and I want to keep improving.”
