Newmains are ready to go

-

Newmains United boss Kevin Muirhead insists his side are more than ready for the new season.

United will travel to play Lanark United in their first league game under new boss Muirhead this Saturday and the Victoria Park boss is looking forward to the challenge.

Whilst Newmains will miss a couple of players through holidays, Muirhead believes it is the time for the rest of his squad to make a statement.

He said:“We’ve got a squad of 21 players right now and that’s roughly where I wanted to be when the season started.

“However, like most managers in the league, if I can add quality to the side, I will because I’m not going to close the door on anyone just because I’ve got 20-odd players.

“We’ve got a couple of guys missing this weekend through holidays but it gives a couple of the boys who maybe on the fringe of the team a chance to come in and impress.

“Everyone is looking fit and sharp so we’ve had a really good pre-season.

“We want to have players fighting for their position and it’s healthy for the team.

“Lanark will be a tough game on Saturday but I’ll get a match plan sorted out this week by looking at their squad and watching as much footage as I can of them.

“They’ve had some good preseason results but it’s a different test when you’re in the league and we’ll be looking to start off in the best possible way.”
