Brass band win two contests in a row

- Michael Temlett

Newmains and District Brass Band were victorious at the Troon Entertainment contest last week.

It takes the reformed band’s achievements to an impressive two wins out of three contests – with the other being a fourth place finish at the Scottish Championships.

The band has gone from strength to strength and are now getting ready to represent Newmains once again this Saturday.

It has been a successful time for the band who played their first public performance in June last year.

Now secretary Graeme Goldie is calling on the support of locals as they head to Selkirk for a concert at the Victoria Halls.

Graeme said: “This success is down to many factors, namely the hard work put in by each and every member of the band.

“Rehearsals in the NCT centre have allowed the band to rehearse in excellent facilities, and the NCT Centre staff have been amazing.

“The support received from the town of Newmains has been overwhelming, from local residents who had family members in the band from generations past, to proud supporters who have great memories of the band from years gone by.

“That is what we were set up for, to restore some much needed Heritage for Newmains, and we are doing just that.

The brass band also have plans to hold a concert in the NCT Centre later this year to give the town the chance to enjoy their music.

Tickets are available for Saturday’s show in Selkirk by contacting the band secretary, Graeme Goldie on 07508 247 785.
