Biogas plant plans
Plans for a proposed biogas plant in Shotts have been submitted to North Lanarkshire Council.
The plans, submitted by Shotts Biogas Ltd, would see the devlopment of a Anaerobic Digestion (AD) Plant constructed on land adjacent to the Davidson Bros animal feeds plants.
If the plans are given the green light by councillors, Davidson Bros would use the majority of the renewable energy for their site.
In their design statement submitted to the council, Shotts Biogas Ltd to reduce carbon emissions in the environment.
It added: “Avoidance of artificial fertiliser production is a significant avoided environmental impact.
“The generation of renewable energy and reducing our dependency of fossil fuels is at the heart of both local and national policies and the carbon footprint reduction on Davidson’s operations will be very significant.
“This development provides an excellent opportunity for agricultural diversification and bringing brownfield land into productive use.”
The proposals have been backed by Shotts c o u n c i l l o r Tommy Cochrane.
SNP councillor Cochrane said that he was set to hold a meeting later this week with the plant holders.
He added: “I welcome any potential investment that brings jobs to Shotts and the surrounding area.
“The proposals are all about green energy which I am in favour of.
“I couldn’t think of a better place to have such a plant.
“Hopefully, it is a sign of more businesses wanting to come to Shotts.”
