Shotts Golf Club recently welcomed its newest member, a potentiall­y life saving defibrilla­tor. The club’s pro-am chairman, Alan Grant, accepted the gift from Janet Knox, chief liaison officer for St John’s Scotland, on behalf of the club. The club is delighted with this new piece of equipment, which will hang proudly in the foyer. Calderhead High School parent council will hold their annual general meeting in the school on Thursday, October 6, at 6pm. New members are welcome to attend this meeting. Stane Primary parent council have their AGM in the school on Wednesday, October 5, at 6pm. New members will be made welcome. Shotts and District Rotary Club Meetings are held in the Station Hotel every Wednesday evening at 7pm. The club are holding their annual sponsored walk around Beecraigs Park, near Linlithgow but this has been postponed until Sunday, October 9, from 1pm. Most of the proceeds from this event will go towards helping local groups and organisati­ons. For further informatio­n about the club, contact the club secretary David McCloy on 0796120487­1 or email davidmcclo­ysnr@hotmail. com. 1st Shotts Company Girls’ Brigade Girls looking for something to do on a Wednesday night are welcome to come and join in for some fun and friendship. The Girls’ Brigade is all about making new friends, discoverin­g new things and, above all, having fun. The girls enjoy a variety of different activities from crafts and competitio­ns, to drama and displays. There are also opportunit­ies for them to widen their horizons by learning new skills, gaining awards and making a difference in their local community. The youngest members are the Explorers and girls in P1-3 can join in each week from 6pm to 7.30pm. For those girls in P4-7, who are old enough to join as a Junior, this group meets each week from 6pm to 7.30pm and P6-7 girls come along at 6pm to 8pm. The Juniors take on new challenges through a range of different activities, working towards gaining badges. They are also able to demonstrat­e how much they have learned through displays and competitio­ns. They are also able to visit different places throughout Scotland on day and weekend trips. The Brigaders are the oldest girls in the company and any girls who are at secondary school can come along on Wednesdays from 6pm to 8pm. The Brigaders take on more challengin­g work but there’s also lots of adventure involved. They are able to take part in outdoor pursuits and adventure sports and might even be able to go on a Brigade holiday or activity weekend. They can also work towards the Queen’s Award and various levels of the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme, which will help them to grow in confidence and develop new skills for the future. The company welcomes members both old members and new and meet every Wednesday night in Calderhead Erskine church hall. EU Congregati­onal Church On Wednesday, there will be an open church held from 11am until 1pm when the minister will be present. Come along for a time of quiet contemplat­ion and prayer. There is a fundraisin­g meeting at the church on Thursday night at 7pm. On Sunday, the morning service will be at 11.30am and the evening service will start at 6.30pm and on Tuesday nights, the singing group meets at 7pm.
