Circle dancing class is held in St Andrews Parish Church, Mount Stewart Street, every Wednesday afternoon from 12.30pm to 2.30pm. It costs £4 per session with refreshmen­ts included. The club are planning a second course on the use of digital cameras, laptops, camera settings and software. All equipment will be supplied by the club and anyone interested in taking part in this course should forward their name and contact details to Ian Pollock on 01555 770148 or email ian.pollock@ btinternet.com. There will be no meetings on Friday or next Monday due to the September weekend. Friday, September 30, will see Tony Potter judge the club’s annual print competitio­n in St Andrews hall at 7.30pm. Soup/sweet luncheon The first autumn luncheon held in the United Reform Church raised £246 with the next event planned on October 15. Crossroad cafe held its 10th anniversar­y luncheon in Kirkton church hall on Monday of last week and the ladies thank all their regulars who have supported the cafe in helping them to raise funds for many of the local charities over the last decade. Trefoil Guild met on Tuesday of last week in the Guide Hall and president Ruby Mitchell welcomed the ladies and introduced the guest speaker Fiona Leishsman, who gave a talk on beauty topics and demonstrat­ed creams, oils and products suitable for different skin tones. The vote of thanks was given by Ruby with tea, biscuits and a raffle concluding the evening. The Guild are hosting a musical evening in the Guide Hall with St John’s Grace Notes Youth Choir on October 11, at 7.30pm. Week-day service The service held on Thursday morning of last week was well attended with the message given by Phillip Fox, followed with the congregati­on’s favourite hymns and a visit to the kettle’s on afterwards. St Athanasius Parish thank all who gave to the recent Italian earthquake appeal with £437.76 sent to the Diocese of Rieti with a letter of support. The Scottish Catholic Aid Fund thank everyone for their generous response to the African drought appeal. A general meeting will be held in the parish hall on September 29, at 7pm and is open to parishione­rs, voluntary groups and ministries. Tickets for the Rat Pack tribute night on October 7, cost £10.
