Livingston .......................10 Dalziel ............................23

Dalziel picked up their first win of the season against Livingston in the BT National League 3.

Livi hadn’t had the best of starts to their campaign, but a double from hooker Alan Bowles lifted the Motherwell outfit to victory.

The hosts kicked off in glorious conditions but the first points didn’t come until Dalziel powered up field through Gary Thornton and Andrew Glover was given an easy shot at goal, which he duly converted to put his side 3-0 up.

Livingston attacked from a Dalziel knock on and kicked the ball through, but Glover won the foot race and dotted the ball down for a 22 metre drop out.

Dalziel restarted and Livingston gathered the ball, their winger exploiting the overlap to put a teammate in for the score. The conversion was good and Livingston were now 7-3 up. From the restart, Livi attacked down the left and Dalziel transgressed, giving the hosts another shot at goal.

The fly half didn’t disappoint the home crowd and Livingston were now 10-3 up.

Dalziel won a lineout on the Livingston five metre line and set up the drive.

As the maul neared the line, hooker Alan Bowles broke off to power over the line. Glover converted to square the score at 10-10.

As half time approached, Dalziel were spending considerable periods of time in the Livingston half, but were unable to make that possession count.

On a rare foray into the Dalziel 22, Livingston were awarded a penalty, but the kicked was unable to convert from the wide angle.

Livingston again strayed offside, and Glover made no mistake with the penalty attempt to put his side back into the lead.

Dalziel kicked off the second half and went on the offensive and had Livingston on the ropes. Glover was afforded another penalty shot at goal, this time making no mistake and doubling his side’s lead to six points.

From a Dalziel scrum, just inside their own half, the ball was spun out to Joe Taroga, who set off on a mazy run through the Livingston defence.

The ball was recycled to Bowles who received the pass from Westwood on the half way line. Bowles beat three defenders and galloped into score his second try under the posts.

Glover converted and Dalziel were now 23-10 up with 10 minutes left to play.

In the final minutes, neither side could add a score but both lost a player after Jordan Donaldson was shown a red card.

Elsewhere, the Second XV were away to West of Scotland and lost out 34-17 whilst the Third XV had a friendly away to Strathendrick’s which they lost 46-26.

The Under-18s won 29-19 against Livingston.
