5 charges including screwdrive­r and brick assaults Alleged trio stamped on victim’s head and body

Three teenagers are set to stand trial at Hamilton Sheriff Court over a string of assaults in Craigneuk.

Two teenagers from the Wishaw area, aged 17 and 16, along with a 15-yearold boy, are set to answer five charges against them relating to incidents in February, March and July this year.

It is alleged that on February 20 at Shieldmuir Railway Station the 15-yearold, from Glasgow, assaulted a man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, by punching him on the body, striking him with a screwdrive­r, tripped him causing him to fall to the ground and repeatedly kicking him to the head and body.

The youngster is also charged with having an offensive weapon, namely a screwdrive­r, with him on the same date.

All three individual­s are also accused of attacking another man in Craigneuk’s Laurel Drive on March 21.

Allegedly all three punched the alleged victim on the head, knocked him to the ground causing him to strike his head on the ground and then repeatedly punched and kicked him on the head before repeatedly jumping and stamping on his head and body to his severe injury and permanent disfigurem­ent.

The final two charges relate to an incident which allegedly took place at Hillcrest Avenue and The Broadway in Craigneuk on July 10.

The 16 and 15-year-old’s allegedly assaulted a third man by threatenin­g violence towards him, punched him on the head and threw a brick at him causing it to strike him on the body.

The 15-year-old is also accused of spitting in the face of a woman.

A further hearing in the case is due to take place at Hamilton Sheriff Court this Friday. The trio’s trial is due to begin on October 24.
