Yobs’ two days of terrorising at flats

Rampaging over roofs and music up full in Main St

- Ross Thomson

A teenage gang of yobs terrorised passers-by in Wishaw Main Street over a two day period according to one Wishaw councillor.

Speaking at a recent meeting of Coltness Community Council, Councillor Sam Love said that the youths had been abusive to members of the public.

And were on top of the roofs of Main Street properties and that a Main Street bus stop had been vandalised.

The antisocial behaviour comes less than a month after officers announced a crackdown on antisocial behaviour in Coltness.

Councillor Love said: “It appears the trouble has moved to Central Wishaw.

“There was a lot of trouble over the weekend of October 8 and 9.

“They were up in flats above shops in Wishaw Main Street and they were being very abusive to passers-by and had music on a ghetto blaster up full blast.

“I called the police twice that Saturday afternoon but on Sunday it was the same again.

“The bus stop at Lloyds was also completely smashed up.

“Th i s is completely unacceptable.”

A Po l i c e Scotland spokesperson confirmed to the Wishaw Press that police officers in Wishaw received reports of three youths on roofs in Main Street, Wishaw, above the Lloyds Pharmacy and then further down the street.

The spokesperson added that CCTV was checked but while police checked the area no youths were seen on the roof by police.

It was also confirmed that there was no damage to property to properties in the area.

The antisocial behaviour comes less than a month after a Wishaw Main Street church pledged to install CCTV after vandals caused thousands of pounds worth of damage for the second time.

Wishaw Old Parish Church, located just yards away from last week’s incident, saw a stained glass window smashed at the rear of the church which was set to cost £6000 to repair.

The churchgoers’ misery has been compounded as in July vandals had climbed on to the roof of the church extension, wrenched an external floodlight from mounting and tossed it against a stained glass window.
