St Pat’s annual fayre raises fantastic sum

Over £14k from event

- Ross Thomson

Parishioners of St Patrick’s Church in Craigneuk have raised a staggering £14,000 from the annual autumn fayre.

The event, held in the Parochial Hall, is held each year to raise funds for the upkeep of its community hall.

The fayre which hosts stalls like the tombola, bric-a-brac, baking, cosmetics and a tea room with home baking and hot dogs, has been run in Craigneuk for many years and each year the event is a big success.

This year was no different with a grand total so far of £14,093.69.

Parish priest Fr Krzysztof Garwolinski said: “It’s absolutely amazing. We are so grateful to the parishoners and to the people of Craigneuk, Motherwell and Wishaw.

“We have a lot of old buildings and the cost of running them is enormous, so this money is very welcome to the parish.”

Fr Krzysztof also confirmed that the first stage of renovating the hall has begun.

The church received the grant from Waste Recycling Environmental Limited (WREN) £ 47,521 for repair the roof, installation of new stair lift and complete rewiring of the hall.

Craigneuk Community Council secretary Margaret Ann Murray was just one of many stallholders at the fayre and was delighted with how much money was raised.

She said: “We seem to beat the previous years total every year but to raise that amount of money is unbelievable.

“A lot of hard work goes in to making the fayre a success and a lot of local businesses gave prizes.

“A huge thank you must go to everyone involved, from the people who organised the event, ran the stalls, supported the event on the day and especially to the people who donated money and wonderful prizes for the lucky winners in the raffle.”
