- Staff reporter

Mr Lindsay Shearer, and his son Arun, of 1C1 enjoyed an exciting visit to Hampden Park, ahead of Scotland’s qualifying match against Lithuania.

At a recent Sportsman’s Dinner in aid of the Les Hoey MBE DreamMaker Foundation, Mr Shearer successfully bid for the opportunity to meet the Scotland squad and to watch them train during one of their International Camps for the World Cup Qualifiers.

The Dreammaker Foundation is a local charity that carries out fantastic work making dreams come true for some very special children with life- threatening illnesses throughout Scotland.

Arun and his dad attended Hampden Park in Glasgow on October 7 before the Qualifier against Lithuania to meet the team.

During the visit they had the pleasure of watching the team train and participate in a match among themselves.

After the training match Arun was asked by Gordon Strachan, Scotland’s manager, to present Russell Martin with a medal to celebrate his 25th cap for Scotland.

Arun then met and had photographs taken with all the players. Finally he had the opportunity to get some Scotland strips autographed by the team for himself, his little cousin and the school. Dragon’s Lair Competition 2016

S3 pupils, Lucy Dunning, Gregg Lannigan and Logan Reid attended the information session for this year’s North Lanarkshire schools Dragon’s Lair competition.

The S4 Achieve class, accompanied by Mr Andrew Keating and Mrs Esther Craig recently paid a visit to the Black Watch Museum, Perth to see the Poppy Wall.

This was part of the display from the Tower of London that is now touring the country.

Pupils were met by one of the museum staff who spoke about the poppy display.

She then allowed them time to spend on their own looking at the display and to visit the museum.

They looked at the symbolism of the poppy and also researched where family members fought.

The experience links in with the display that the pupils made last year. Great Scottish Run

Five members of staff and a senior pupil from the school ran in the recent Great Scottish Run 10k and Half Marathon Events and raised money for various charities for the efforts.

All four members of the PE department, along with Miss Anushi Pathmanathan, Science, and Scott Cooper, S6, had been training hard in the lead up to the event.

Mrs Renee McNaughton, PT, Miss Jennifer Brown and Mr David Somerville, all ran in the 10k event.

Mrs McNaughton has so far raised £550 for MacMillan, and Mr Somerville was running for Alzheimer Scotland, and has raised £250.

S6 pupil Scott Cooper’s chosen charities were Erskine and MS Society and he has so far raised £100 in total.

Mr Graham Lang, also of the PE department and Miss Anushi Pathmanathan, both took part in the half marathon event.

Miss Pathmanathan’s efforts have raised money for SSPCA. Mr Lang’s chosen charity was MS Society, for which he has raised £575.

Clyde Valley High School staff and pupils are immensely proud of the runners’ efforts.
