Camera Club The speaker at the meeting of Carluke Camera Club held on Friday of last week was Margaret Elliot, a prominent member of Dumfries Camera Club and a respected judge of photograph­ic club competitio­ns. The title of her presentati­on was Photograph­y –My Way, during which she illustrate­d the various techniques which she has used during her career. These included the use of black and white, colour and of a blend of both in a single image. Next week’s meeting will be addressed by Stewart Dodd, whose presentati­on will be entitled 54 Degrees South. As usual, the meeting will be held in St Andrews church hall at 7.30pm and new members and visitors are welcome. The training workshop on Monday will be led by Libby Smith and will deal with adjusting digital images. Full details of the club’s activities can be found on their website at www.carluke-cc.org. Youth praise evening The Rise Worship Band and Grace Notes Choir will be performing a concert in St John’s church on Saturday, October 29, at 7pm for 7.30pm. All are welcome to come along to this event, where an offering will be taken on the night in aid of St Andrew’s Hospice in Airdrie. Women’s Guild meeting The Women’s Guild will hold their next meeting in St John’s church hall today (Wednesday, October 19) at 1.30pm with guest speaker Ivy Blair, who will talk on the subject of Prospects with a warm welcome given to all to come along. Next week’s guest speaker on October 26 will be Innes Mathers, who will talk to the ladies about the topic of the Syrian refugees, which should prove to be an interestin­g subject. Come along where you will be made welcome. Day Centre The members of Carluke Day Centre will hold their annual Hallowe’en luncheon in the Masonic Hall on Tuesday, October 25, with everyone looking forward to the opportunit­y to look out their fancy dress costumes. The winners of the games afternoon held on Thursday of last week were as follows: whist - B Muir, J Mitchell, M Stewart; and dominoes - J McLaren, D Boyd, T Scobie. For more informatio­n on any of the above events, contact Mary on 01555 772214. Trefoil Guild The Carluke Trefoil Guild held their guest night in the Guide Hall on Tuesday of last week. President Ruby Mitchell welcomed the company of ladies and introduced the Grace Notes Choir and St John’s Youth Choir, who were their guests for the evening. Both groups gave an enjoyable musical programme to the members of the guild, led by Janis McBride. The youth choir had the pleasure of visiting the Rock Nation’s youth conference in August of this year and came back full of enthusiasm and memories and they now enjoy the many opportunit­ies as result of this event to entertain the community with their music and comedy. The choir received a warm welcome from members of the guild and Ruby wished them every success for the future with tea and a raffle concluding a very enjoyable evening. The next meeting of the guild will be held on Tuesday, November 8, and a representa­tive from Tesco’s Carluke store will be the guest speaker. Everyone is welcome to come along to this meeting which opens at 7.30pm.
