United crash out of the cup

-

Newmains United . 0 Ardrossan Winton 4 Newmains United crashed out of the West of Scotland Cup at the hands of Ayrshire District League Leaders Ardrossan Winton Rovers.

A tough tie was made even harder, due to the absence of three regular starters, injuries, and goalkeeper Jamie Brown making his debut, following Gareth Hallford’s departure for Lanark United last week.

United survived a few first half scares when Rovers had two goals chalked off for offside.

But after 27 minutes, Ardrossan opened the scoring when a cross from the right was bundled back across the goalmouth for McNeil to tap in.

They could have gone further in front not long after, however a low strike was turned round the post by Brown, keeping the score at 1-0 at the interval.

Ardrossan doubled their lead three minutes into the second half.

Following a high cross from the left, an unchallenged header back across the goal left McNeil a simple header.

Davidson made it 3-0 in the 71st minute after another tap-in and McNeil completed his hat-trick three minutes later after the Newmains defence failed to clear.

Newmains will be looking for a better performance with the Junior Cup-tie against Hermes on Saturday.

United host the 2014-15 North Superleague Champions at Victoria Park in a 2.30pm kick-off.
