Mum’s precious gift of life Organs donation after sudden death

- Lynn Love

A Wishaw mum, who died suddenly of a brain haemorrhage, has given five people an early Christmas present after selflessly donating her organs.

Alison Kerr collapsed at her home in Hill Street on Saturday morning after complaining of an excruciating headache whilst getting ready to go Christmas shopping.

A l i s o n ’ s fiancé Colin Crumley immediately called an ambulance and she was rushed to Wishaw General Hospital.

After arriving at hospital, 42- year- old Alison was very confused and took a turn for the worse.

Hospital tests later revealed her brain was unresponsive.

Alison’s grieving daughter Cherise told the Wishaw Press: “We are all in complete shock. We thought my mum was healthy.

“She hadn’t been complaining of headaches and seemed her usual bubbly self. I can’t understand how this has happened.”

Alison’s heart-broken family were told by doctors there was nothing more they could do for her

Her last active heartbeat was 2.56pm on Sunday.

The family then made the decision to allow doctors to remove her organs.

Cherise added: “She was so caring and always put everyone first.

“That’s why she signed up for organ donation.

“She wanted to save lives and now she has. We are so proud of her.”

Support worker Alison is survived by her parents Margaret and Robert, her sister Fiona, brother Robert, her two daughter’s Jade, 25, and Cherise, 20, her one-year-old grandson Callum and her fiancé Colin.

Her daughter Gemma passed away shortly after she was born.

Devastated Colin proposed to Alison in August.

He said: “My heart has been shattered. I don’t know how I’m ever going to get over this. “Alison was the love of my life. “The three years we have been together has been the best years of my life.

“She was an amazing woman and I feel lucky to have met her.

“I’m going to miss her so much.”

Cherise added: “Some of my mum’s ashes will be put in with my sister’s and the rest will be made into necklaces for me and Jade.

“I’d like to thank everyone for their loving messages we have been sent over the last few days and for the glowing tributes that have been paid to my mum. “We are totally overwhelmed.” Alison’s funeral will be held at Holytown Crematorium on Friday at 12.45pm, followed by a gathering at the Houldsworth Bowling Club in Campbell Street. .
