Villagers so relieved now Biggar Road bridge open

-

Long suffering commuters in Cleland are this week breathing a sigh of relief after Biggar Road Bridge re-opened to the public.

And as drivers were able to get their cars over the bridge once more, those travelling on buses had more reasons to be cheerful.

Bus operator First Glasgow confirmed to customers in Cleland that Services X11, 193, N240 and 241 resumed normal routes and timetables between Cleland Main Street and Crossgates from Monday.

All 800-plus services operating in the area also resumed normal routes on Monday when Biggar Road bridge re-opened.

Earlier this month, passengers in the village had raised concerns over the 241 service to Cleland and were worried that it would continue to terminate at Coltness.

However, those fears have been put to rest by First Glasgow.

A spokesperson for the company said: “We are very aware of the inconvenience caused to our customers during these roadworks, which were outside our control.

“We have tried to minimise disruption to customers where possible and would like to thank our passengers for their patience throughout these closure periods.

“We are very pleased to announce the return to normal timetables for the many hundreds of passengers served on these routes.”

A shuttle bus had been provided by the council while the bridge in Biggar Road was closed.

Fed-up residents were up in arms earlier this year.

They feared the Parkside area of the village would be cut off from the rest of Cleland while work was carried out by a contractor on behalf of Network Rail to deliver the long-standing parapet works to the bridge.
