Dalziel St Andrew’s Parish Church The advent focused series of sermons, “Finding God in unexpected places” continues on Sunday morning. All are welcome and includes a signer and electronic note taker for those who are deaf or hard of hearing. Anyone who cannot attend the service can join in via the live streaming on the church website at dalzielsta­ndrews.org.uk. The kirk session will hold their final meeting of the year on Thursday, December 8. The men’s club, Guild and Sisterhood prepare for their respective Christmas meals out. A team of Sunday school reporters prepare to spring into action to record the news on Sunday, December 18, at a special Scots nativity presentati­on ‘Och aye the news! A bairn born in Bethlehem’. The cast of the Sunday school and Fusion group will present the story with new songs, and is an event not to be missed. A Christmas tea will be served in the hall afterwards. There will be a short family service on Christmas Eve, starting at 6.30pm, with refreshmen­ts available in the hall after the service. Fusion, the bible class team, will be using British Sign Language during the singing of favourite Christmas carols at this service. Refreshmen­ts will be on offer from 11pm in advance of the Watchnight service, which will commence on December 24, at 11.30pm. There will be a short family service on Christmas Day at 11am, and all are invited to bring along a gift they have received from Santa. Work is now advanced on the restoratio­n of the upper floor windows at the church. All are asked to continue to take care of contractor­s’ vehicles when moving around the grounds. Wishaw United Reformed Church service on Sunday, December 11, at 11.15am in Coltness Community Centre will be conducted by Rev Derek Corner. Everyone is welcome. Wishaw Provost Club host speakers throughout the season who talk about a wide range of issues, from Docklands Light Railway, Beijing, Gobi Desert, growing up in darkest Lanarkshir­e, and Harry Lauder. Meetings take place at Wishaw Golf Club on the first and third Tuesday of every month between October and April. Contact secretary Jim Percival on 0169838266­0. South Wishaw Parish Church All Wednesday daytime activities continue today (Wednesday, December 7), with prayer group and life group at 10am at 11am respective­ly. The mid-week service at noon will be followed by lunch. The Wednesday Welcome continues at 1.30pm. Cafeteria on Saturday morning between 10am and 1pm with see Team C on duty this week. The kids’ Advent drop-in club is on Saturday, December 10. This is for children aged five to 12 and activities include Advent themed crafts and games to get in the Christmas spirit. Early booking is recommende­d as spaces are limited. Saturday Night Live on December 10 will be a ‘Christmas cracker’ and will incorporat­e the worship group’s performanc­e of ‘At last Noel’. Sunday morning service at 11am will be conducted by Reverend Terry Moran. The Guild meeting on Monday will be their Christmas dinner and starts at 6.30pm. Houldswort­h Bowling Club There is dancing to Terry Moore plus bingo and treasure chest on Saturday, December 10. There are a few places remaining for the Christmas party night on Friday, December 18. Tickets cost £10 and a deposit of £5 per person should be paid when booking.
