Shotts gala day The committee are having a Christmas party this Sunday, December 11, from 12pm to 3pm in the Marble Club with Looney Tunes disco, visiting characters, reindeer dust, raffles and much more. Tickets costs £3 and Santa will be paying a visit to the children. St Patrick’s Shotts Saint Vincent de Paul Society celebrates the 80th anniversar­y since it’s foundation began in St Patrick’s Parish on December 15, 1936. To mark the occasion, a Christmas carol concert will take place in the church on Monday, December 12, at 7.30pm. The SVDP members extend a warm welcome to everyone to join them to mark this milestone of social concern and charitable service carried out by the society within the community. Shotts and District Rotary Club Rotary club meetings are held in the Station Hotel every Wednesday at 7pm. For further informatio­n, contact the club secretary, David McCloy on 0796120487­1 or email davidmcclo­ysnr@hotmail.com. 1st Shotts Company Girls’ Brigade The youngest members are the Explorers and girls in P1-3 can join the group each Wednesday, from 6pm to 7.30pm. Girls in P4-7 are old enough to join as a Junior, who meet each week, from 6pm to 7.30pm and P6-7 girls come along from 6pm to 8pm. The Juniors take on new challenges through a variety of different activities, working towards gaining badges. They are also able to visit various places throughout Scotland on day and weekend trips. The Brigaders are the oldest girls in the company and any girls who are at secondary school can come along on Wednesdays, from 6pm to 8pm. They will be able to take part in outdoor pursuits and adventure sports and might even be able to go on a Brigade holiday or activity weekend. The girls can also work towards obtaining the Queen’s Award and various levels of the Duke of Edinburgh awards scheme, which will help them to grow in confidence and develop new skills for the future. Shotts Girls’ Brigade welcomes members old and new, and meet in Calderhead Erskine Church hall every Wednesday nights. EU Congregati­onal Church There will be an open church on Wednesday of this week, from 11am until 1pm when the minister will be present. Come along for quiet contemplat­ion and prayer. There will also be soup, tea and coffee served in the big hall at no charge. All are welcome to come along. The Sunday morning service is at 11.30am and the Sunday evening service is at 6.30pm, featuring lessons and carols with Dykehead Amateur Flute Band. The singing group meets on Tuesday nights at 7pm. Bon Accord Club The club are taking new bookings, so get in touch if you’d like to hold an event there. There is bingo every Wednesday and Friday evenings and a cabaret every Saturday night in the lounge. The function hall is available to hire for events.
