Wishaw Press

Community must support local football

-

Football – it’s a funny old game. Fans fall in and out of love with their team depending on results every week but one thing is true – they need your support.

Wishaw Juniors started the year on a high with a superb Scottish Cup run and they looked unstoppable in the league.

Unfortunately the Beltane Park side missed out on promotion as well by a point but it seems the years of ‘wee Wishy’ are long gone.

Chris McGroarty has turned the Junior outfit into a good footballing side and is an exciting, young manager.

We ran a promotion at the start of this season entitling readers to get in to a game for free.

The campaign was successful and it was encouraging to see more people through the gates.

Wishaw Juniors and the Wishaw Press have a good relationship and the club are trying all the time to get more people to games.

Every time you go to watch the Juniors you’re guaranteed to get entertainment and have a chat with many happy locals. For a club like Wishaw to thrive, it’s vital for the community to support them.

Two miles down the road at Fir Park, it’s a similar story.

Never have the fans been at the forefront as much as right now with Motherwell Football Club.

They are the first top-flight club in Britain to be run by the supporters after the Well Society concluded a £1 deal.

However, the hard work starts now and everyone associated with Motherwell will know it.

The club have a wise general manager at the helm in Alan Burrows who has nothing but the best interests for Motherwell at heart.

But the Well Society can’t do it all on their own which is why they’ll need supporters to turn up every second Saturday.

We’re living in a time where everyone is becoming disillusioned with the big money English Premier League.

For that reason, there’s no better time to support your local sides.
