Santa’s special Craigneuk trip

Kids get surprises

- Lynn Love

Two sick Craigneuk youngsters got an early visit from Santa - thanks to kind-hearted staff at Tesco’s Wishaw store.

Patrick Crawley, Christine Shannon, Danny King and Stephen Devine delivered presents to seven-year-old Kyle Love and five-year-old Kayden Dewar after hearing about their illnesses from The DreamMaker Foundation.

Craigneuk youngster Kyle received three Star Wars toys and was absolutely delighted with his gifts.

Mum Ashley Whelan said she was grateful to Tesco and to the DreamMaker Foundation for making this happen.

She added : “He was in shock when he opened the door and saw Santa standing there.

“He didn’t know what to say, he was speechless but so happy.

“It put a massive smile on his face and I really can’t thank those who made it happen enough.“

Berryhill Primary pupil Kyle was diagnosed with a Bone Cyst Femur Fracture on his right hip bone three years ago and has been dependant on a wheelchair ever since.

Since his diagnosis, Kyle hasn’t been able to ride his bike, take a bath on his own, go out to play with his friends and has struggled at school.

Five- year- old Kayden was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia four years ago. He underwent several bouts of intense chemotherapy.

Staff also stopped by Kayden’s Craigneuk home and surprised him with three gifts from Santa.

Last year Les Hoey and his DreamMaker team made Kayden’s birthday extra special when his favourite movie characters – The Minions – visited his home in Gateside Road. Wendy, mum to brave Kayden and his six siblings, said the youngster was delighted when the two popular characters appeared at their house.

Charity king Les had arranged for the Despicable Me life-size figures to surprise little Kayden to give him a big boost on his special day. This week’s winners of our competitions in the Wishaw Press are as follows:
