The Wishaw community pledged their support for our Christmas campaign.
Kind-hearted people and local businesses got behind our ‘#WishawWishes: Our Elderly a Merry Christmas’ project and helped bring some Christmas cheer to pensioners in our community.
We teamed up with Wishaw councillor Rosa Zambonini in a bid to make Christmas one to remember for the elderly.
Generous locals donated items that were used to make a special Christmas parcel for a pensioner.
Dozens of people also pledged to spend time or offered to help someone in need over the festive period.
Councillor Zambonini said: “I took the donated gifts to pensioners at Netherton Care Home and they were absolutely delighted. I also got messages from people saying that they loved giving because they missed their own grandparents so doing this filled a hole.
“I can’t thank everyone enough for getting behind our project and helping make Christmas one to remember for our lovely elderly residents who have made this town what it is.”
Pupils at Morningside Primary pledged to spend more time with their elderly family members over Christmas.
Ten- year- old Harrison Kerr said: “My gran Tracey just lives on her own, so every Christmas we go over and keep her company and take her food.
“I know she likes to watch Christmas films so I’m going to make sure I spend time and watch a few with her.”
Little Sophie Brown said she enjoys spending time with her papa.
She added: “He’s just on his own now so I guess he must get bored sometimes. I try to go and see him every week.
“I think we are going to have dinner with him on Christmas Day.”
Last year the Wishaw Press launched a special toy appeal with Tesco, Morrisons and Asda to deliver presents for youngsters at ward 19 and 20 of the hospital.
