A Very Clyde Valley Christmas There was a packed audience of parents, staff, community friends and distinguished guests for the annual Christmas Concert.

Mrs Anne Traynor, Faculty Leader of Expressive Arts, produced a very varied programme of entertainment and community carol singing.

The talented group of pipers and drummers set the tone for the evening with an entertaining set.

The drummers in particular, wowed the audience with their skills and their unusual light display.

The pupil and staff choir once again proved to be an audience favourite, and enjoyed rapturous applause after their version of ‘O Holy Night’ at the end of the concert.

A group of senior pupils received many laughs and plaudits after their humorous sketch, ‘The Spirit of Christmas’.

The audience took to their feet at the end of the concert as the choir led everyone in ‘Merry Christmas Everyone’.

The evening was a truly joyous celebration of the true meaning of Christmas.

Headteacher, Mr Nick Quail, was also thrilled to present Mr Andrew Flynn, a representative from St Andrew’s Hospice, with a cheque for £500, the proceeds from the concert.

Andrew spoke emotionally about the Hospice and proudly announced that to date, Clyde Valley High School has raised over £37,000 for the Hospice. Christmas Ceilidh The Assembly Hall was once again decked out in glittering Christmas decorations as the senior Dance Leaders held their first ever Christmas Ceilidh.

The students really let their hair down as they twirled and jigged their way through some popular Scottish ceilidh classics.

After a short break where they feasted on a stunning buffet, the pupils then danced the night away to some disco favourites. Christmas Fun in Modern Languages The Modern Languages department recently held two festivals, both incorporating French and Spanish culture, language and traditions.

One was held on Monday, November 28, which was enjoyed by pupils from Orchard PS, Newmains PS and Berryhill PS. The other, on Monday, December 5, brought in pupils from Netherton PS, Thornlie PS, Morningside PS and Wishaw Academy.

Mr David Henderson and pupils staged a French Nativity play and there was an informative session with Jeny, the French Assistant, who spoke about French Christmas traditions.

Mrs Helen Whitelaw had a Spanish Christmas card making session and Miss Edwards, student teacher, helped the pupils to write a letter to Santa in Spanish. Christmas Lights S1 and S2 pupils, accompanied by Mrs Andrew Keating and Mrs Evelyn Neilson, visited the Christmas Lights in George Square, Glasgow. The group had been working on Christmas activities and the trip was a reward for their hard work over the year so far. Sponsored Silence Mr Andrew Keating’s 4XL class, recently did a sponsored silence in aid of the Salvation Army.

Pupils spent an entire day in silence using only ‘Show-Me-Boards’ to communicate with staff and pupils.

Mr Keating reported that no-one broke their silence and was thrilled to hand over a cheque of £95 to the Salvation Army’s Christmas Appeal.
