Hospice helping hands
Under 14 Scottish Cup Third Round A brace from Robbie Brown helped Braidhurst under-14’s see off a determined Wallace High School in their third round tie in the Scottish Cup.
Two great saves from Ryan Renwick prevented the hosts from taking the lead in an even first half but the deadlock would soon be broken.
A great cross delivered by Cameron Campbell was met by the head of Robbie who guided the ball past their keeper.
A second quickly followed as a corner kick failed to be cleared by the Wallace defence and Robbie lashed the ball into the net with a left footed strike.
After half-time Wallace halved the deficit but the visitors held on to ensure progress to the fourth round of the Scottish Cup. They will now play the winners of Graeme HS or Our Lady’s HS Cumbernauld. LAGTA Presentation On Thursday, December 16, 28 pupils from S5 and S6 attended a presentation from Motherwell based training company LAGTA.
Pupils gathered together to listen to an information session on what is involved in an apprenticeship in the motor industry.
LAGTA are Scotland’s oldest training provider for the automotive industry and pupils learnt valuable and useful information from the talk which will help them make the transition from school to the workforce. Road Safety Competition Braidhurst pupils were once again showing off their art and design skills with their entries to this year’s ‘North Lanarkshire’s Road Safety’ completion.
Two S1 pupils, Victoria Nicholls and Jay Goode, placed first and second place respectively in their group whilst four other pupils from S1 and S2, Casey Rodger, Amy Lee McLachlan, Ross Lines and Kiera Breslin were high commended by the judging panel. Christmas Boxes Captains and prefects from Braidhurst High school once again battled the wind and rain to deliver our annual food parcels to the elderly and the needy within the local area.
This year the collection of food items tied in with our ‘Dress Down Day’.
Pupils were asked to donate £1 in aid of St Andrews hospice and bring a food item.
The response was overwhelming and resulted in over 600 food items being collected. All 30 residents in the sheltered housing complex at Baillie Court received a box of groceries and eight local families also received Christmas boxes.
Pupils taking part gain valuable life skills such as empathy and initiatives such as these help the pupils to develop a real sense of community within the Forgewood area. St Andrew’s Hospice Fifth year pupils Emma Ewart and Rachel Daniels raised money by selling Christmas items such as badges and Christmas cards at intervals and lunchtime in the school foyer.
Emma made A3 posters with colourful tinsel to advertise the prices and the money went to St Andrew’s Hospice.
The school have raised over £1000 so far and its target is £2000 through the organisation of many other events which we realise will make a substantial difference to peoples’ lives. Braidhurst High and St Andrew’s Hospice On Friday, December 15, headteacher Carolyn Rooney and St Andrew’s Hospice signed a formal business partnership between the charity and the school.
The school will continue to encourage pupils to become involved in fundraising for the hospice.
Senior pupils will also be offered the chance of becoming ambassadors where they will actively promote the work of the charity.
Two pupils Emma Ewart and Rachel Daniels are both well on their way to becoming Silver Ambassadors. It is hoped that formalising the partnership will ensure that Braidhurst and St Andrew’s can work even more closely.
