Terex Trucks will be restored to their former glory thanks to 17 apprentices at their Motherwell factory.
The youngsters, aged 17 to 21, will repair the 13.5 tonnes dump truck which will go on show following the restoration.
Now in its fourth year, the Terex Trucks apprentice programme will see Cambusnethan Club There is dancing with Johnny Weir plus bingo on Mondays, and Slimming World class on Tuesdays at 7pm. Saturday sees a cabaret and dancing in the concert hall with top vocalists Frankie B and Liz Sloan. Bingo with a snowball of £150 and treasure chest will also be available. Cambusnethan Old and Morningside Parish Church The morning service, Sunday school and creche will be held in the church on Sunday, January 8, at 11.30am, and will be conducted by Reverend Iain Murdoch. Bible reading notes for January to March are now available to pick up from the church. All organisations will return, at their normal times, next week. Charity shop at Manse Road, the first apprentices graduate with the intention it will lead to full-time jobs.
Director and general manager of Terex Trucks, Paul Douglas, who started with the company as a graduate 30 years ago, said: “The beauty of this project is that it gives the apprentices ownership of something from start to finish, learning a vast array of skills and the need for first class teamwork and communication along the way.
“From my own experience, I know how important this period in your working life is in building your skills.” Carluke Camera Club will resume their season at their next meeting on Friday, January 6, when there will be another ‘Guess Where’ quiz. That evening will also be the last opportunity for members to hand in entries to the club’s colour print competition, which will be judged by visiting judge Jim Dyas, at the meeting of January 27. Badminton sessions Please note the badminton sessions will resume in St John’s Church hall at the usual time on Thursday, January 19. Jar of Grace appeal This year, the churches in the town are once again being asked to raise funds through the Jar of Grace appeal to support UNICEF’S children’s emergency fund. When disaster strikes whether it’s a flood, earthquake or the result of war and conflicts, it seems that the children are the ones who suffer the most. In January, everyone is being encouraged to collect their labels for empty jars and start putting in coins into their Jars of Grace.

Young Farmers It’s only a few days now until the Young Farmers present their 2017 annual concert this being a big challenge for the group as they were crowned the winners of the 2016 Concert of the Year. Rehearsals are going well with over 40 taking part in the show which will be presented in the Motherwell Theatre on January 12 to 14. Tickets are going fast at £7 for the first performance and £9 for the shows on January 13 and 14. The club have chosen Potter Plasters Lego House Disasters as this year’s show title and the audiences are in for a great night of entertainment.
