Council’s plans for Main Street improvements

-

North Lanarkshire Council insist they are doing all they can to keep the town centre thriving.

Whilst the Main Street has 53 empty units – five more than this time last year – the council have revealed they are making improvements.

Jack Duffy, Town Centres Co-ordinator, with Town Centre Activities, said:“As part of Town Centre Activities role in town centres we have undertaken a number of initiatives aimed at boosting the economic activity in Wishaw Town Centre.

“These include a digital platform which will include a dedicated website, a Facebook page and a Twitter account all designed to promote Wishaw town centre as well as help improve the digital awareness of North Lanarkshire’s businesses.

“Since the launch of the Facebook page there has been 583 likes, 196 posts and an average reach of 3459 people per month.

“Wishaw was also the first North Lanarkshire town centre to benefit from a series of digital workshops organised by TCA.

“Town Centre Activities also employ Digital Ambassadors who engage with retailers to promote their offers and market their business free of charge.

“In February and March TCA organised in conjunction with Heart Radio a St. Valentine’s Competition and a Mothers’ Day Competition for town centre shoppers who entered via the InWishaw Facebook page and Heart Radio website.

“Wishaw Town Centre played host to one of the highest profile Christmas Lights Switch-on event, increasing footfall, and NLC liaised with local retailers to exclusively offer a grant to improve their shop front and a promotional leaflet which was also distributed to market the town centre and raise profile.”
