Rovers keep throwing it away

-

(Pic: Kevin Ramage) Glasgow Perth ...... 5 Carluke Rovers ..... 5 Carluke Rovers spurned the lead four times as they drew with Glasgow Perthshire in a stunning match.

Colin Slater’s side started well and took the lead on 18 minutes after Ian Watt released Greg Fernie who rifled in an excellent strike from 25 yards out.

But despite taking the lead, two minutes later they were pegged back by Fraser Malcolm – a story which was to be a familiar one on Saturday.

Three minutes later Peter Lynn found Watt who slammed the ball home to make it 2-1 before Davie Kirkwood equalised eight minutes before half-time.

But the visitors found their way back in front just before the break as Chick McCole’s speculative effort from 35 yards out crept by the goalkeeper.

The second period started with Rovers looking to kill the game and they looked to have done so on 53 minutes. Watt bagged his second of the day and Rovers looked like grabbing all three points.

But two minutes later Kirkwood notched the second of a brace to make it 4-3 before Craig Smith equalised after 83 minutes. And three minutes later, Rovers thought they had done enough when Fernie scored again at the back post but John Paul Craig popped up in the 92nd minute to give Rovers a share of the spoils.

Rovers play Newmains United this Saturday at Victoria Park.
