Cruel pair forced out by vigilantes

Dog neglect couple flee their home

- Lynn Love

Shocked neighbours told this week how a cruel couple who neglected their dog so badly he ATE his own tail have fled their home after being targeted by vigilantes.

Angela Todd, 33, and Martin Randall, 31, of Gateside Road, Craigneuk had their windows smashed by vandals last Wednesday night after they had been found guilty of animal cruelty.

The twisted couple failed to provide the necessary treatment for a chronic tail injury for their Staffordshire bull terrier that led to mental and physical suffering.

The suffering dog was put down after the cruelty came to light.

Todd and Randal were given a fiveyear ban on keeping animals and were sentenced to 200 hours’ community service.

Furious Craigneuk residents hit out after finding out the pair were living on their street.

Ex- Craigneuk community councillor Christine McGeechan said she was appalled when she found out what happened. “It’s disgusting,” she added “The poor dog deserved to be looked after. “Everyone in the area was shocked. I’ve been told the two of them have moved out because of the hassle they were getting.

“When I read the article last week I messaged some of the neighbours who stayed next to them and asked why none of them reported the dog.

“They said they had not seen the dog in months and thought they had given the it away.”

Commenting on the investigation which led to the couple being sentenced, Inspector Heather Lawson, of Scottish SPCA, said: “When I arrived at the property the dog, named Marley, was wearing a muzzle and it was clear he had a severe tail injury and also had injuries on either side of his face, which were later discovered to be from the muzzle.

“On closer inspection I noticed how severe Marley’s tail injury was, there was a foul smell coming from it and the dog was constantly snapping round to scratch it. It was clear that his injury was causing him extreme mental distress as well as constant pain.”

Inspector Lawson added: “No effort was made to take him to the vet. His injuries were entirely preventable had earlier veterinary treatment been sought.

“We welcome the fact that Randall and Todd have been dealt with by the court and the sentence handed down.

“We hope they will give serious consideration about their suitability to care for other animals in the future.”
