Poverty and jobs are our big issues
they too can offer support please get in touch.
I was delighted to host another successful Poverty Action Meeting where we take time to share good practice, catch up on the latest work and learn about each other’s organisations.
It is excellent to see so many people in our communities working together and sharing their views and ideas.
It also highlights the amazing partnership work taking place in Motherwell and Wishaw to address the impact of poverty in the local community.
There was an informative presentation from Evelyn Boyd from the Lanarkshire Big Lottery Team on funding in North Lanarkshire and we also heard from SNP Group Leader, councillor David Stocks on the Community Grants Initiative and how groups can access funds.
If you are a community group seeking funding opportunities, there will be a drop in event with local funders taking place on Friday, March 24, in the Dalziel Building from 11am to 2pm.
Please contact my office for further information on 01698 337191.
In a similar way, I am now keen to bring together organisations that can help create jobs so that people can be lifted out of poverty.
Many people have a great idea for a business but are unable to access traditional sources of finance or do not have the expertise or knowledge on how to develop their idea into a business prospect.
Hopefully this event can assist in getting more businesses into the empty units on our high streets – particularly in Wishaw.
Although many businesses start small, they provide income to the area and could potentially grow to employ a team of people.
My office is currently planning an advice and funding event in the near future to spark the constituency’s entrepreneurial spirit.
But if anyone requires any guidance in the meantime, I encourage them to get in touch with my office.
On local issues, I look forward to seeing many more SNP councillors and a change of administration in North Lanarkshire in May.
I shall be doing my bit to make sure this happens and I look forward to seeing many of you on the campaign trail.
