Well up for music fest

- Kirsten McStay

A new multi-venue music festival is set to launch in Lanarkshire next month.

Motherwell Makes Music aims to promote the best local musicians as well as showcase some of Scotland’s hottest emerging talent.

Many of the bands included in the line-up are from Lanarkshire and the surrounding areas, and are keen to be part of this exciting new project.

The event will be held over three days from Friday to Sunday, March 17 to March 19.

The artists will be performing at various venues across Motherwell with The Electric Bar, Jack Daniels and Starka being among just some of the hosts.

Bloodlines, A Sudden Burst of Colour,Ultras, The Banter Thiefs, Dogtooth,The Vistas, Pyramids, Holy Pistol Club, Foggy City Orphan, The Ranzas, The Un-Romantics and Caulder are just a few names you can expect to see over the jam packed weekend – with a few acts still left to be announced.

Organisers are confident the initial year of the festival will be a success and Motherwell Makes Music will become an annual feature in the town’s event calendar.

Derek Watson who is behind the organising of the project and is the bassist in Motherwell band The Banter Thiefs, said he was looking forward to bringing something new and fresh to the town.

He said: “Motherwell Makes Music is something I’ve been thinking about for a long time as there isn’t much opportunity for bands to perform locally.

“We have a great line-up with more to be announced, and I’m confident the music fans will come to the gigs and we can make this an annual date.”

Motherwell and Wishaw MSP Clare Adamson also raised a motion in parliament congratulating Motherwell Makes Music and wished the organisers and performers the very best for the future.

Early bird tickets for the festival are priced from £10, plus booking fee.

The weekend pass wristband guarantees you entry to all shows across the weekend.

But individual tickets will cost £6 and can also be purchased from www. motherwellmakesmusic. bigcartel.com.
