A new poll last week revealed that fish and chips is no longer the nation’s favourite takeaway.

The survey, carried out by PaymentSense, showed that Chinese food was now Britain’s favoured choice – with 35 per cent of the vote.

We asked residents if they agreed with the poll and asked them what their takeaway of choice is when they treat themselves.

Husband and wife David and Isabel Currie, had differing opinions.

Motherwell’s David said: “I would always go for an Indian if I could pick just one.”

Isabel disagreed, adding: “For me, there’s nothing better than a great authentic Italian pizza.”

Grace Murray, from Wishaw, struggled to pick her favourite but highlighted why she believes people have turned away from buying fish and chips.

With the results of the survey showing the average money spent of takeaways each year was £500, Grace said: “I think I would have to pick either Chinese or Indian – it can depend on how you’re feeling.

“Fish and chips are becoming more expensive so you can see why people are maybe not preferring it as much.”

Shona McLeish backed the results of the poll as she picked Chinese as her favoured takeaway.

She said: “I absolutely love Chinese food and I would always pick it.

“You get much more variety than you could at a fish and chip shop.”
