Pharmacy plan would be good for our health
Locals hoping to see a new chemist open in Netherton
Plans for a new pharmacy in Netherton have been welcomed by residents.
Mint Healthcare Ltd have applied to NHS Lanarkshire to open a new pharmacy offering a full range of NHS pharmaceutical services at 159a Netherton Road.
Before an application can be made, regulations require that NHS Lanarkshire and Mint Healthcare Ltd carry out a joint consultation to seek the views of local people.
Building owner Mohammad Ashraf, who also owns Bobby’s Convenience store in the village, said: “I have rented out the unit to Mint Healthcare as I think a pharmacy will be very beneficial for Netherton residents.
“My customers have been very supportive since I announced the plans.
“It’s an ideal location and will stop locals having to travel into Wishaw and Motherwell for prescriptions.
“This will help the elderly people in the village immensely.
“It’s a busy parade and I know the pharmacy will be well used. We have more than 18,000 people using our cash machine a month so that shows you the footfall we have in the area.
“There is plenty of car parking space making the unit easy to access.
“I really hope that NHS Lanarkshire listen to these points and take on board the support we have from residents.
“A pharmacy can only make the village better.”
Russell Clark, who lives locally, said: “Local villages and communities such as Overtown, Coltness, Cleland and Muirhouse all have their own pharmacy, so why not Netherton?
“It’s an expanding community with many young parents with children and a large senior citizens p o p u l at i o n so see if the good folks of the village can make it happen.”
Wi s h aw councillor Rosa Zambonini added: “This can only be a welcome move for the residents of Netherton.
“I myself live in Netherton and as a parent of two kids with serious medical needs I will find it incredibly useful to have havethis this facility facilitynearby. nearby. ThispharmacyThis pharmacy will also be a welcome addition for many of our ageing population who have mobility issues. TheproposalhasThe proposal has my full support.”
Mint Healthcare Ltd are set to hold a consultation with NHS Lanarkshire concerning the plans on Monday, March 20.
