A babysitter who sexually abused three schoolgirls in Wishaw and Motherwell has been jailed for 13 years.

Vile Anthony Jordan, 44, also attempted to rape another girl and sexually abused a third.

The horrific crimes were committed over an 11year period at houses in Wishaw and Motherwell while their mothers were at bingo or out shopping.

Judge Lord Matthews told Jordan: “You were convicted of an appalling catalogue of abuse of young girls.

“One charge was particularly repellant raping a girl when she was aged between 13 and 17 on almost a daily basis. It was an appalling ordeal for the young girl. It robbed her of her adolescent years.”

Sick Jordan gave a thumbs up to family members as he was led away to begin his sentence.

His rape victim, now 24, sobbed in the court room as the verdict was ready out.

She told the Wishaw Press: “I wish he had got longer but I guess 13 years is better than nothing.”

The woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, told prosecutor Jane Farquharson: “I can’t remember if it was every day, but it happened whenever he had a chance to get to me.”

She described feeling scared and terrified the first time he raped her when she was just 12 and added: “I was feart to move.” “Afterwards I curled up in a ball and cried.” Ms Farquharson told the High Court in Glasgow: “This is a young woman who had been groomed by the accused to satisfy his sexual deviance.

“In evidence, Jordan claimed he was in a sexual relationship with the girl in 2014. This was nothing more than a last and defiant act by her abuser with no purpose other than to humiliate her.”

Jordan, of Siloch Square, Motherwell, attempted to rape another of his victims, but every time he tried she would kick out and scream.

This victim, now 17, also told her mother she did not want her to go out to bingo, but did not tell her why.

She finally confessed to her mother what vile Jordan had been doing and the police were contacted.

Jordan’s third victim was sexually abused after he began a “squeezing game “with her.

He also abused her during a visit to a swimming pool by inappropriately touching her as they came down the flume together and peering over the cubicle door when she was getting changed.

Jordan accused all his victims of lying and claimed the incident on the flume was accidental.

His victim, now aged 25, said: “If you were accidentally touching someone you would not have to be squeezing them.”

Jordan was convicted of raping one schoolgirl, attempting to rape another and sexually abusing a third girl.

Jordan has been placed on the sex offenders register.

A spokesman from NSPCC Scotland said: “Anthony Jordan’s sickening and despicable crimes will have had a devastating effect on each of his young victims.

“Jordan forced his victims to give evidence in court and relive the horrific ordeal that he put them through.

“We welcome the jail term imposed and hope it sends out a strong message that child abuse will not be tolerated.

“We also hope that this case will also encourage others to speak out about abuse they have suffered knowing they will be listened to, believed, and provided with advice and support.”
