-

Calderhead High School marked International Women’s Day on March 8 with displays and a PowerPoint in the Library.

One of the displays features Mary Barbour. Mr Reynold’s History class have been studying Mary Barbour’s ‘army’ and the Glasgow rent strikes of 1915 which eventually led to the Rent Restrictions Act. The class produced some excellent banners which are now on display in the Library. Rotary Club Tech Challenge

S2 pupils Bekki, Emma, Lewis, Emma, Erin, Jordan, Kirstin and Amy and senior pupils, Ceinwyn, Dean, Jason, James, Kate and Samantha recently competed in the annual Rotary Club Technology Challenge held at Kilsyth Academy. The four teams from Calderhead High School had to design a remote controlled vehicle which would fit under a bridge and clear debris from a pipe. All teams thoroughly enjoyed designing, testing and creating their vehicles and the opportunity to try out some new tools. All pupils represented the school incredibly well. It’s worth noting that 64 per cent of our participants were female, more than any other school. Elections - Scottish Youth Parliament and Local Council

Calderhead High School pupils will be joining young people all over Scotland to cast their votes in the Scottish Youth Parliament elections, which are taking place from the March 3-17.

Elections for the SYP are held every two years and young people aged 14 to 25 are eligible to vote to elect Members of the Scottish Youth Parliament (MSYPs). The Scottish Youth Parliament is a politicallyindependent organisation that aims to represent the young people of Scotland. It is made up of around 150 young people aged from 14− 25 across Scotland. Every constituency area can elect a MSYP to represent the views and opinions of young people. In addition some MSYPs also attend representing Voluntary Organisations. The SYP meets three times a year to listen to and recognise the issues that are most important to young people, ensuring that their voices are heard by decision-makers.
