next year so we’d rather get to changing things now.

“Our squad is weak in comparison to other teams and we have a lot of work to do to get ready for next year.

“We played a friendly on Monday and I had a look at 12 trialists so hopefully we can add some more numbers.”

United were up against it after three minutes when McIntyre ran free and slid a low shot beyond McKelvie.

Perthshire almost increased their lead when a Kirkwood header was tipped on to the bar by McKelvie to keep the score at 1-0.

Gemmell was dragged down in the box and from the resultant spot kick Kirkwood sent the keeper the wrong way to double the lead.

The table-toppers picked up where they left off in the second half and McIntyre found Craig who had time to take a touch and find a gap before firing home to make it three.

Carrigan tried to get one back for the hosts when they were awarded a free kick 20 yards out but Brown scampered across to save it.

On the hour mark the visitors took their tally to four as Smith raced clear of the Newmains back line, rounded the keeper and tapped in.

With a four goal lead Perthshire took their foot of the pedal a little and the home side came into the play a bit more but were still not threatening going forward.

The Glasgow side would score again when Forrester sent a low cross across the box which was collected by McIntyre who fired past McKelvie.

At the other end Heron had a rare attempt for the home side from distance which saw Brown saved well.

The final action of the match saw the visitor’s denied a second penalty when Smith looked to have been upended in the box only for the referee to wave away the claims.
