Wishaw whacked by Burb

-

Benburb ................ 4 Wishaw Juniors .... 1 Wishaw Juniors suffered their heaviest league defeat of the season on Saturday after being battered by Benburb.

The disappointing defeat leaves the Beltane Park side 14 points off the top spot behind Saturday’s opponents Cambuslang Rangers and ten points behind the second-place promotion spot.

With nine games to go in the Central District First, Chris McGroarty’s men will need favourable results elsewhere in the hunt for promotion.

The game kicked off with a controversial moment as referee Tony Fullerton denied Wishaw a chance to take the lead, claiming the ball had hit the inside of the post with players claiming the ball struck off a wheel inside the goals.

Much to the dismay of the visitors it was goalless but they soon fell behind to two quick goals from Benburb.

Ryan Smillie hit back for Wishaw before it went 3-1.

A Sandy Thomson penalty save gave the visitors a bit of hope before Benburb it finished 4-1.

Now Wishaw must travel to play table-toppers Cambuslang Rangers as they look to stay in the hunt for promotion.
