Man, 28, guilty of carrying knives

A man police stopped walking home from a party and discovered he was carrying two knives up his sleeve in Bonkle has been sentenced.

Thembalath­eo Ndlovu pleaded guilty to possessing the two blades in Murdostoun Road on March 29 last year.

When police searched 28-year-old Ndlovu they found a kitchen knife with a five inch blade within his right sleeve and another kitchen knife in his left sleeve.

Both blades were seized by police and he was taken to Motherwell Police Office.

Ndlovu, originally from Airdrie but now living in Maryhill, had been walking from a late-night party when he had been stopped by officers after they smelled a strong odour of cannabis.

He was ordered to complete 250 hours of unpaid work within a period of 12 months.

Ndlovu’s friend Michael McGregor, of Pegasus Avenue, Carluke, who was with him at the time, was also searched by officers.

He was found to have a small stash of cannabis, valued by police at £10.

McGregor was subsequent­ly admonished on the charge.
