Tory candidate will be laid to rest
The funeral of Wishaw council candidate Marjory Borthwick will take place this Saturday.
The Conser v a t i v e candidate collapsed and died at a Tory dinner at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Glasgow at the start of the month.
Frantic attempts were made to save the 61-year-old who was rushed to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Now the much- loved Wishaw woman’s funeral will take place on Saturday, March 25 at South Wishaw Parish Church and she will be laid to rest atCambusnethan Cemetery.
After Marjory’s death, tributes poured in from all across the political landscape including Central Scotland MSP Graham Simpson, who said: “Marjory will be sadly missed by us all. She was everybody’s friend.
“She has been at the heart of the party in North Lanarkshire for as long as I can remember.
“I was working very closely with her in her quest to be elected as a councillor for Wishaw. We are determined to get the result in May that she would have wanted.”
Independent Alliance councillor Sam Love added: “She was a good friend and one of the nicest people you could ever meet in your life.
“She was an active and devout member of the church.”
SNP councillor Rosa Zambonini added: “Very sad to hear of the death of my neighbour and Conservative party council candidate Marjory Borthwick. Thoughts with her friends and family.”
Scottish Conservative leader Ruth Davidson said: “Marjory was one of the first people I met when I joined the Conservative Party.
“She was a bubbly, enthusiastic, warm-hearted woman whose energy was infectious.
“We will all miss her terribly, not least her colleagues in the North Lanarkshire association to whom she was so devoted.”
