Marjory’s funeral at South Church

Tory candidate will be laid to rest

The funeral of Wishaw council candidate Marjory Borthwick will take place this Saturday.

The Conser v a t i v e candidate collapsed and died at a Tory dinner at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Glasgow at the start of the month.

Frantic attempts were made to save the 61-year-old who was rushed to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Now the much- loved Wishaw woman’s funeral will take place on Saturday, March 25 at South Wishaw Parish Church and she will be laid to rest atCambusne­than Cemetery.

After Marjory’s death, tributes poured in from all across the political landscape including Central Scotland MSP Graham Simpson, who said: “Marjory will be sadly missed by us all. She was everybody’s friend.

“She has been at the heart of the party in North Lanarkshir­e for as long as I can remember.

“I was working very closely with her in her quest to be elected as a councillor for Wishaw. We are determined to get the result in May that she would have wanted.”

Independen­t Alliance councillor Sam Love added: “She was a good friend and one of the nicest people you could ever meet in your life.

“She was an active and devout member of the church.”

SNP councillor Rosa Zambonini added: “Very sad to hear of the death of my neighbour and Conservati­ve party council candidate Marjory Borthwick. Thoughts with her friends and family.”

Scottish Conservati­ve leader Ruth Davidson said: “Marjory was one of the first people I met when I joined the Conservati­ve Party.

“She was a bubbly, enthusiast­ic, warm-hearted woman whose energy was infectious.

“We will all miss her terribly, not least her colleagues in the North Lanarkshir­e associatio­n to whom she was so devoted.”
