MATHS CAMP Last week 46 fifth and sixth Year students studying Higher and Advanced Higher Maths at Taylor High School set off to the Kilbowie Outdoor Centre in Oban for the annual maths Camp weekend.

Students were given the opportunity to participate in an extensive study programme for the forthcoming examination.

A great time was had by all and students were also being given the opportunity to take part in an outdoor activity as part of the school’s Health Promotion Programme.

They took part in coast steering, which involved rock climbing, and sea swimming and the group finished off with a seven-metre jump into the sea.

Credit goes to the students involved as this is an activity where participants get extremely wet jumping in and out of the sea on what turned out to be a particularly cold and wintry day.

All staff who participated in the weekend were impressed by the pupils’ effort and application.

It is hoped that their efforts will be rewarded by excellent results in the final examination.

The weekend is part funded by the Edinburgh University Mathematical Association and the school thank the association for their continued support.

Thanks to Mr. Mark Dorris (Principal Teacher of Mathematics), Mrs. Liz Bergen and Mr. John Harty (Teachers of Mathematics) and Mrs. Anna Robertson (Principal Teacher of Support for Learning). UNDER 14s FOOTBALL UPDATE Scottish Plate 2nd Round Taylor High..................................4 Cardinal Newman.......................0 Having come through a Preliminary and First Round, Taylor faced local rivals Cardinal Newman in the second round of the national tournament.

Goals from Ben Miller, Lewis Wales and a Kyle Lafferty double sealed Taylor High’s place in the next round.

Comments by the opposing manager noted the professionalism of the Taylor under 14s and the high effort levels from every player.

A home tie will be arranged against Springburn Academy – the opponents in the third round. EDGE TESTING TRIP The Higher computing science students visited Edge Testing at their offices in Strathclyde Business Park in Bellshill, recently.

Edge Testing is a company who provides a variety of different software testing services to corporate and private clients, including Flybe, Heineken, HM Government G-Cloud and the Big Lottery Fund.

The pupils found out first hand about the various different testing techniques and how software needs to be fully tested before public release.

Mr Brian Ferrie – who was recently awarded “CEO of the Year” at Scotland’s Digital Technology Awards – joined pupils. Thanks to Mr. David Lewis (Principal Teacher of BCT) for organising this worthwhile trip. THIRD YEAR OPTIONS MEETING Taylor’s third year options information evening takes place from 7 to 9pm on Thursday, March 23. The evening is aimed at the current Second Year cohort and their parents/ carers and offers them the opportunity to be informed of pupils’ subject options and visit different departments around the school to find out, in more detail, what is on offer as they embark on their Third Year studies.

Thanks to all staff who are contributing to the preparation and delivery of the evening; the continued support of the young people at Taylor High School is greatly valued.
