Cross country challenges
Cross Country
It has been a busy time for Calderhead High’s cross country runners.
Two teams from Calderhead participated in the Scottish Schools Athletic Association Cross Country Championships at Dechmont Law on March 5 and contended with mud, biting wind, freezing rain and undulating ground to finish the course in good time.
Teams from S1 –S3 also participated in the North Lanarkshire Schools Cross Country on March 16, again in very wet conditions.
Well done to all the participants, particularly for coping with such challenging conditions. Fire Reach Two sets of S3 pupils from Calderhead High School participated in Fire Reach courses organised by Scottish Fire and Rescue Services in partnership with North Lanarkshire Council.
The SFRS Fire Reach course runs throughout the school year and sees firefighters visit third year pupils throughout North Lanarkshire.
The course focuses on selfdiscipline, problem solving skills, communication skills, leadership skills, citizenship, team work and team building exercises and teaches health and safety awareness and basic first-aid skills.
As well as learning valuable skills, the pupils greatly enjoyed their time on the Fire Reach course. Lunchtime Football It’s been an exciting football week at Calderhead High School.
Staff and pupils participated in friendly 7s football matches during lunchtime most days.
The staff team played against the S2s and the match ended in a creditable draw.
However, the staff were roundly defeated by the S5 team the following day.
The seniors played a hard fought game against the S1s and managed to win 4 - 0.
The S4 and S2 teams remained unbeaten after they scored a 1 – 1 draw. MYSP Well done to Sarah Quinn and Chris Costello who were elected to be the candidates to the Scottish Youth Parliament for the Airdrie/Shotts constituency.
The school wish to congratulate them and look forward to them visiting the school and pupils in the future. Parent Council Quiz Night Calderhead High School’s Parent Council is holding a Quiz Night on Friday March24 from 7pm to late at Shotts Bowling Club.
