Sharing Springhill venue

-

Shotts Community Council are looking to holding their meetings in Springhill every two months.

The commumity council normally hold their meetings in the community centre in Kirk Road.

But they decided to share the meeting between the Kirk Road facility and Springhill Community Centre.

It comes after Getting Better Together have taken over the running of Springhill Community Hall.

The hall was one of 11 centres and libraries earmarked for closure as part of council cuts.

A campaign was mounted to save the centre after it was announced by CulutreNL that it would close as part of £1.5million of savings needed.

Now Getting Better Together (GBT) have take over the centre .

A spokesman for GBT said:“Most will remember the publicity around the closure of community halls in North Lanarkshire.

“Springhill was earmarked as one to be closed.

“The Springhill groups using the hall campaigned to save the hall and we were approached and asked if we would consider negotiating lease terms with CultureNL with a view to longer term plans to purchase the building along with some land for other developments.”

As of February 1, GBT were the lease holders and have been offocially runing the hall.

The spokesman added:“What does this mean for groups and members of the community is that the booking fees are much fairer.

“We would like to see groups using this building again and if you are interested in making a booking for your group or an event contact Lorraine or Kimberley on 01501 825800 who will provide you with details of the fees.”

And the SNP Group in Shotts have changed the venue and day of their monthly meetings.

They now take place on the third Tuesday of every month in Springhill Community Centre at 7.30pm.

New members are welcome along to the meetings.
