Let’s show our Steel to survive

-

It wasn’t the start anyone was looking for, especially new boss Stephen Robinson.

Football is a results business and everyone at Fir Park is aware of that – now more than ever.

But when you suffer a defeat, the next important step is looking at the manner of your loss and how you can turn it around.

Everyone who watched Motherwell on Saturday will know that their are plenty reasons to be optimistic.

Motherwell showed a resilience and a steely determination which has been missing on occasion over the past couple of months.

The players have bought into Robinson’s tactics and have backed him since he started as caretaker – unity is key at times like this.

So many supporters said they would not return while Mark McGhee was manager at Fir Park.

So now he has gone, it’s time for all the real Motherwell fans to return and back the squad for the crucial run-in.

Fans sarcastically cheering Craig Samson every time he catches the ball helps nobody in this situation.

Make no bones about it, the Steelmen need three or four wins from the last nine games to ensure their place in the top flight.

That is part one of Robinson’s remit and one he firmly believes the team will achieve.

On paper, Motherwell have a good squad with a healthy balance of experience and youth.

On Saturday, they could have been out of sight by the hour mark but failure to take chances cost them dearly.

Going forward, after the international break, there are two games in three days which will give you a good indication of how this squad will fare.

Forget the Rangers game on April 1, anything from that is a bonus.

The Wednesday after is the Lanarkshire derby.

Any time Motherwell play Hamilton it’s a big occasion but this is one of the most important clashes between the two in years.

Hamilton look every bit the team who will get relegated and they have not defeated Well in the two times they have played this season.

Being at home, Motherwell must win to further the gap between themselves and their rivals.

The thing which will really benefit Motherwell

Well need three or four wins to stay up
