desire and commitment from the players.

“If that’s the template we’re working for the rest of the season, then I’m confident we’ll be OK.

“On another day, we could have had four or five — and it wouldn’t have been a bad scoreline because I thought we dominated a large part of the game.

“We’ll look at it game by game and we’re aiming to try to win every game we play in.

“It’s very much in our hands and we’re capable of putting together a run of results.

“The players believe in what we’re doing and that’s the single biggest factor for me. We’ll play a certain way to try and keep us up.”

Motherwell’s top scorer Louis Moult agrees with his new boss and believes the squad have shown they are capable of staying in the top flight.

He said: “We need to put points on the board and, obviously, we didn’t get the points on Saturday but the next nine games are huge

for the football club. I think the desire is there and everyone can see that because the effort is there.

“We maybe just need a bit of luck but I’m a big believer in that you make your own luck.

“It’s important we keep our heads high, we go again, we keep working and it will change.

“We can’t get caught up on bad luck, that’s a figure of speech, we have to stick together and make our own luck.

“I think we looked organised off the ball — that’s a credit to the management — and we looked dangerous.

“We didn’t know what was going on for a week or so but we had to keep going and working for each other.

“Now we know who the manager is we have to work hard and change what’s going on at the moment and we firmly believe we can do it.”

Moult also admits he would have preferred to skip this week’s international break, adding:“I would have liked another game straight away but we have to use it to our advantage to rest and work on things we can improve.

“If we cut the silly goals out on Saturday, we would get something out of that game, so we need to work on that.”
