Fire Reach project pupils make grade
Twelve S3 pupils from Clyde Valley High were invited to take part in a Fire Reach programme at Coatbridge Fire Station.
The lucky individuals were subjected to the same rigorous training as a new recruit.
All pupils came back having found the exercise worthwhile with some expressing an interest in following a career in this field.
Let’s Get Cooking: S5 pupils Sophie Paterson and Stephanie McCabe attended the council’s Let’s Get Cooking event accompanied by Miss Lisa McKinstry, Home Economics.
Let’s Get Cooking is a pilot scheme to set up a cookery club in your school which promotes healthy eating.
The girls are now officially the school’s pupil champions of cookery and will be setting up an after school cookery club in the next few weeks.
Ket Prabkonchua: S6 pupil Ket Prabkonchua was delighted to share with the school her unconditional offer to study Architecture at Glasgow School of Art.
Ket arrived in Scotland at the age of 10 from Thailand, with little to no English. She has achieved various Higher qualifications and has been an outstanding Ambassador for Clyde Valley High School.
The GSA is notoriously difficult to be accepted into, especially straight from school and Ket would have been up against overseas students, mature students and people who have already been at college studying for an HNC or HND.
Her achievement is quite simply outstanding and staff and pupils at the school are incredibly proud of her.
Registering to Vote: Senior pupils in Clyde Valley High School participated in a Registering to Vote event last week.
All students eligible to vote in the forthcoming Scottish Council elections on May 4 had the opportunity to find out more about the responsibilities of and services supplied by our councils in Scotland.
An interesting activity was for the school’s young people to put forward their ideas about what was important to them and their families, along with their views on what they considered to be the qualities of a good councillor.
All students who are 16 years old before the election in May then had the opportunity to register to vote in class.
