Wishaw promotion hopes almost over

midway through the second half for dissent.

The game started in dramatic fashion with Rossvale players convinced they should have been given a penalty for a foul in the box but the referee dismissed their claims.

Wishaw almost went ahead on 20 minutes when former Vale player Yami Misanjo found himself through on goal.

He tried to slip the ball past goalkeeper Jamie Donnelly but his effort went wide.

Striker James Coffey also went close for McGroarty’s men but the back of the net did not bulge.

And Wishaw were made to pay for their missed opportunities as Rossvale took the lead.

Chris O’Brien made a run to the touchline and his cut back was stabbed home by Steven Seaton to put the hosts ahead.

Three minutes later the score could have been doubled when O’Brien got to the touchline and cut the ball back to Kirk Forbes and his goalbound shot was parried away by Wishaw goalkeeper Sandy Thomson.

In the second half Wishaw started brightly with only a stunning stop from Donnelly stopping them from levelling.

However, their task was made much more difficult on 66 minutes when Grant was sent off.

With less than ten minutes remaining, the referee reached for his red card once more and sent off Rossvale’s Craig Holmes for a second bookable offence.

Wishaw continued to press for the equalising goal and deep into injury time had one final chance to level.

However, Rossvale goalie Donnelly made sure the points stayed at home with another fine save from a corner.

Wishaw take a break from their league campaign this Saturday when they host Cambuslang Rangers in the Central League Cup. Kick-off at Beltane Park is at 2pm.
