PLAYING WIZARD WILL BE MAGIC

Totten joins Higgins on circuit

- Michael Temlett

Teenage Newmains snooker sensation Chris Totten will join John Higgins on the Pro Tour after championship success last week.

The 18-year-old stormed to victory at the European Amateur Championship in Cyprus to add to his ever-growing trophy haul.

But along with the success of silverware, Chris will now receive a two year invitation to battle it out on the Main Tour alongside Wishaw cueman John Higgins and the sports’ top stars.

The former St Aidan’s High pupil, has been on the brink of hitting the big time in the past 12 months, with wins at the Home Internationals with Scotland as well as a Scottish Open invite.

Now the talented teen will be able to showcase his skills to a wider audience and will also have a wildcard opportunity at the World Championship qualifiers from April 5 to 12.

A delighted Chris told the Wishaw Press: “I’m over the moon. Everyone has been round to see me since I got back and the support I have had from my family has been brilliant.

“I played in the European under- 21 Championship the week before and to be honest I was awful so I wasn’t that confident but I kept going.

“I’m playing in the qualifiers for the World Championship next week so the win has given me a lot more confidence.”

Chris outlasted 116 players from 35 nations and beat Andres Petrov in the final.

He will make his debut on the Pro Tour circuit at the end of May.

He added: “The rewards are there for me now but although you can win a lot of money it also costs a lot to travel around the world. The only thing I can do is keep winning.”

Chris is now looking for sponsorship to help fulfil his professional circuit dream. Anyone who is interested in having their business advertised worldwide should contact Ann Totten on 07834706282.
