Man, 22, stabbed in vicious lane assault Probe underway after victim is brutally attacked
A 22-year-old man was rushed to hospital after being stabbed during an early morning attack in Wishaw.
The man was taken to Wishaw General Hospital by emergency crews following the alarming incident at a lane near Cambusnethan Street just after 6am on Saturday morning.
Police say the victim was attacked by three men and suffered stab wounds to his left forearm and below his buttocks.
He required stitches to his left forearm during his time in hospital.
A Police Scotland spokesman confirmed DNA from an item of clothing had been seized and that officers were looking at possible sightings of the gang on nearby CCTV.
Police had sealed the lane and the nearby grass area for six hours on Saturday morning as they searched for clues.
Police have not released descriptions of the men wanted in connection with the incident but are appealing for the public’s help in a bid to catch the gang.
Meanwhile, neighbours this week spoke of their shock at such an incident happening nearby.
One man, who asked not to be named, believes the council should install more CCTV to stop it from happening again.
He said: “I came in about 10am and saw the police there. That was the first I heard of it.
“I found out someone had been stabbed later on. The police didn’t tell me anything.
“Unfortunately there is always going to be people like that.
“There should definitely be CCTV down in there. At night it’s very dark at the lane.”
Another woman, who wished to remain anonymous, added: “It’s all because of the flats around the back.
“There is always trouble happening in there.
“I think the man must have walked down the lane before he was seen. If you were going to stab someone you wouldn’t do it right near a main street.”
