Crazed husband in ‘eat’ threat to wife

Grabbed hair with such force it began to fall out

- Ross Thomson

A crazed husband threatened to kill his terrified wife and yelled: “I’m going to f****** eat you.”

While watching a horror film, Kevin Frew bit his frightened wife Cheryl several times during a six-hour ordeal at their home.

At Hamilton Sheriff Court on Friday, fiscal depute Mohammed Sarwar described in detail the horror suffered by Cheryl.

At 11.45pm, Mrs Frew was speaking to her sister, who lives in Aberdeen, on the phone in relation to her sister’s son who had been locked in a garage.

Frew learned of this, became angry and wanted to travel to Aberdeen.

However, Mrs Frew terminated the call. Frew, 25, then grabbed the phone from his wife and put it in his pocket.

Frew then became aggressive and accused his wife of cheating on him, which she denied.

Frew then said: “Aye, you are f****** dead!”

He locked the front and back doors of the house placing the keys in his pocket.

In his narration to the court, Mr Sarwar said at that point Mrs Frew was fearful and hid her keys under a pile of washing.

But Frew flew into a rage, telling his wife that he wasn’t stupid and then discovered the keys.

He grabbed his wife by her ponytail, bent her backwards and dragged her by the hair into the living room.

Frew was shouting: “You never know when to shut up!”

Mrs Frew said she was terrified and described her husband as “looking crazy” during the incident at their home in Lindum Street, Motherwell, on October 23 last year.

She begged her husband of eight years to let her go to her mother’s and they would talk in the morning but he refused and wouldn’t give her any keys to get out of the house.

Mrs Frew was sitting on the living room sofa when Frew grabbed her by the hair with such force her hair began to fall out.

Mr Sarwar added: “Mrs Frew said the accused pulled her hair at least 10 times while she was sitting on the sofa.”

As Frew watched horror films on the TV he bit his wife several times telling his wife: “I’m going to f****** eat you.”

A significant time later Mrs Frew noticed a set of keys had falled onto the floor from her husband’s trouser pocket.

She managed to grab the keys and flee from the property. She began to shout for help outside. A neighbour heard her cries for help. Police were called with officer arriving at 5.42am and Frew was detained.

Sheriff Shiona Waldron deferred sentence on Frew, now of Angus Avenue, Motherwell, until May 22 and called for reports.
