Logue says Cllr Love’s remarks sparked SDL rally
Council leader Jim Logue told the Wishaw Press the Scottish Defence League brought Wishaw to a standstill because of Councillor Love’s “ill-advised”and “disgusting comments” about Syrian refguees.
In a statement to the Wishaw Press, Councillor r Logue described the SDL L as racist and fascist.
He said:“The contents of my contribution on Saturday was that North Lanarkshire Council was the first council in Scotla Scotland to welcome refug refugees and in 2007, 80 refug refugees from the Dem Democratic Republic of Con Congo were resettled in Mot Motherwell. “T “Ten years later the uni universal feedback is that the they have settled in very we well and become a re respected community in an and around Motherwell.
“Since November 2015, 37 families have come to North Lanarkshire and settled in Airdrie, Coatbridge, Bellshill, Motherwell, Cumbernauld and lastly Wishaw. Most of these families have witnessed and been the subject of unimaginable violence and torture whilst living in their home country. “The protocols in relation to the Syrians being resettled in North Lanarkshire are exactly the same as the ones which were used in 2007 for the Congolese which North Lanarkshire Council received a national award.
“Great credit must be given to all of our staff who on a daily basis offer support from housing, social work, early years, community development, along with staff from NHS Lanarkshire and Police Scotland. In addition, there are various community and church led groups who offer on a voluntary basis support and befriending. All of this encapsulates the good that exists in all of our communities in North Lanarkshire and should make us all feel proud.”
