Volunteer to help those living with lung disease
A total of 17,350 people are living with the effects of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in Lanarkshire.
These are the latest numbers provided by a charity which helps people living with the lung condition.
Sharon Moncrieff of Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland’s Lanarkshire team said:“Our new respiratory service helps patients by offering telephone befriending, which provides regular contact with a volunteer to encourage friendship and support. Due to an uptake on referrals, we need volunteers to help combat the effects of loneliness by offering an hour or two of their time every week to provide support and encouragement to isolated people. All volunteers are trained and supported. All that’s required is a willingness to help.”
